Dream app: Storify meets Mindmap

Back in March 2009 I described an app I wanted that would allow me to visually represent connections between different ideas I find while browsing the web, reading books, watching videos etc.

I’m still searching for this…think Storify’s drag-and-drop UI meets Mindmaps with the option to share out the whole thing or just individual elements. Oh, I know you can add hyerlinks to objects in a mindmap but that requires too many steps for quick thinking and connecting. Also, you can’t search for content within minmapping tools the way you can with something like Storify. Yet, Storify is linear and meant to tell one narrative at a time; it’s not as good as a mind map for showing connections.

I want an app that combines Storify with a mindmap. That does this but in a free layout:

I find myself constantly connecting, disconnecting and reconnecting wide-ranging ideas. Lately it’s around the notions of permeability of networks and platforms and the blurring of work and personal spaces. A narrow enough field, but I also feel these connect to issues and change management.

Someone suggested Pearltrees. Off to investigate…
