Sachiko Umoto. Illustration School: Let’s Draw Happy People
I picked this up in the Strand bookstore in NYC but didn’t crack the spine until this year, so it counts for my reading in 2014. I really like my “gumby” figures–they’re super-quick and I can easily pose them–but I want to develop some other characters that are more expressive that I can still draw relatively quickly. The step-by-step instructions are view into the artist’s process and I am learning a lot about drawing figures from Umoto. I especially like the characters’ costuming.
Two reasons to be happy!
